“The social themes I explore in film ARISE from an intrinsic drive to tell powerful, character-driven stories, often told from the female perspective.”
ABOUT ROSITA WOLKERS
Hi there!
My name is Rosita Wolkers and I’m a director and screenwriter from Amsterdam - currently based in Haarlem; my second favorite city. My work can best be described as emotional, artistic, sometimes experimental, but always with a realness and autobiographical character. The themes that concern me most are questions about loyalty, identity, trauma and the complexity of parent-child relationships. I have an enormous intrinsic drive to tell powerful human stories, often from the female perspective. And I like to shine a light on underexposed and painful subjects; such as the shame surrounding abortion, the hidden nature of child abuse and the effect of trauma on the body.
In 2018 I graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy with the critically acclaimed film SISTERS that won over 37 prizes worldwide and with which I was nominated for a ‘Zilveren Krulstaart’. I have developed myself as a screenwriter and director for short films, feature film, commercials and other projects. In 2021 I debuted as a director with my short film SUNSHINE MOTEL (2021), which was nominated for the Region Skåne Short Film Award at BUFF 2022, at the Vers Awards 2022 for Best Director, Best Film and Best Screenplay and for Best Live Action Short at Cinekid 2021. The jury report of Cinekid 2021 about SUNSHINE MOTEL was:
“A playful, beautifully stylized short film with a strong signature. There is a clear craftsmanship in the look & feel. We enjoyed the colors, the production design and the cinematographic style. The strong, convincing performance of a well-directed and very young actress take the scenes to a higher level.”
As my first feature film VLAM (2025, directed by Daphne Lucker) is almost finished and the short dance film HER BODY (2024, directed by Daphne Lucker) is screening at the NFF, I am currently working on new projects like my next short film VRIJSPRAAK (2025, directed by me). In the near future I would love to participate in various creative projects; feature films, narrative dance films and (youth) drama series.
So don’t hesitate to contact me for a collaboration or coaching session on your story or script!
